Half Battenberg recommended for beat cars

14th March 2008

The latest guidance issued by the PSDB recommends adopting a half battenburg livery on patrol vehicles designated for use in urban and suburban areas. A study conducted by PSDB has found that half battenburg performs well on beat cars operating in an environment containing a large amount of visual clutter.

The recommendation to use full battenburg on fast road patrol vehicles still stands. Full details can be found in the recent PSDB publication 14/04, entitled "High Conspicuity Livery for Police Vehicles." In addition, vehicle conspicuity is aided by:

- 'POLICE' appearing in large, highly contrasting, bold letters on the flanks of vehicles

- Effective rear chevrons

- Use of force logo to enhance recognition

"Bluelite Graphics has completed a number of half battenburg vehicles and we very much look forward to offering support and advice to police forces looking at this configuration," says Bluelite Graphic's General Manager Lorraine Avery.
